Chapter 3 - The Story

Weird Encounters

(read previous chapters 1-2 if u haven't)

Friday. The class’s favorite day. Why the favorite? The main reason is because PJ (exercise class) is on that day. Before PJ, is Moral class. The students groaned as Miss Zaqiah entered the class.

“Bangun semua…” Amir syed called out. “Assalamualaikum, cikgu. Selamat pagi, cikgu!”

“Selamat pagi, cikgu…” echoed the students.

“Waasaikummusalam semua. Sila duduk.”

Everyone sat with their eyes glued to the teacher. This moral teacher, Miss Zaqiah, is actually the head mistress. And she simply delights in giving students Motivation Lectures on PMR and exam grades.

“Ok, so how was this terms’s results?”

More groaning from the students.

“Who got straight A’s?”

Almost 17 hands shot up. A ridiculous smile crept over Miss Zaqiah’s face.

“Bagus. Continue your hardwork. For PMR I want everyone to get Straight A’s, understand? Ok, I have stuff to do, you all buat kerja sendiri. But please, SENYAP, ok?”

Everyone did all their own stuff indeed. Some ‘molested’ each other playfully, some stared into empty space contemplating about the previous weird happenings, some fished out books for revision, some did their homework, and NONE really chatted like usual. The class was strangely quiet. So un-ikhlas-like.

Bing boom bam! Yimay Cheah suddenly rushed into the room, making sounds like a stampeding rhinoceros. She was late! Or maybe not, because as a secretary of the Board of Prefects, she has duties. Anyway, she went straight to her seat beside Ellie Tan and sat down, with her face unusually pale. All this while she did not open her mouth to utter even a single word.

Ellie was about to ask her a question when Jhanenie, also a prefect, rushed into the class. She was late too?! Hey, I thought all prefects are supposed to set a good example for the students?

Jhanenie’s face was also pale like a ghost. She, too, went and sat down without saying anything.

“Yimay, how come you’re late? You woke up late ah?” asked Ellie.

Yimay merely shook her head.

“Your car broke down halfway ah?”

Again, Yimay shook her head.

“Why do you only shake your head? You become bisu already ah?”

Other students listened to the conversation with curiosity. Yimay shook her head.

“Then what? And how come you’re so pale?”

Yimay turned and looked at Ellie stupidly.

“You look like you’ve scared right out of your brains… hmm…” said Ellie slowly. She saw, in Yimay’s eyes, there truly was fear. Same goes with Jhaneni. Ellie waved a hand in front of Yimay’s dazed eyes.

“Yimay argh, tell me what happened…”

Clinic Dr. Tan

Suping didn’t go school because she fell even sicker, thanks to the rainy day yesterday. She blew her nose and blinked sleepily. Down first with cold, then fever, cough and now sore throat. Furthermore, Friday isn’t a very great day to miss. PJ day lah.

I hope it’s not H1N1 Influenza, she thought. Choy! Choy! Choy! Cannot simply think nonsense!

“Mum, I need to go to the restroom. This full bladder is killing me,” asked Suping asked impatiently. “You wait for the doctor to call my name here, k?”

“Whatever,” replied Mrs. Su (her mum).

Suping casually strolled over to the restroom. She closed the door, sat on the toilet bowl, and seconds later, she flushed… “Woooooshhhh”

She turned the handle and opened the door. What she saw was totally weird. The entire restroom outside was way bigger, more advanced in technology, and much more people queuing up.

“Come on girl, don’t just stand there and stare as if you’ve never seen a restroom before,” snapped an impatient plump lady in the most annoying manner. Suping didn’t bother the slightest about the plump lady and walked on, dumbfounded by her surroundings.

“Where on earth am I?” was all she could say.
